THE COMMITTEES

There are several committees that make up the Quaker Parakeet Society; QPSRAPP, (QPS' Rescue and Placement Program), the Quaker Parakeet Discussion List, (QPList), the Fundraising Committee, which hosts the Quaker Cafe Press Store, the Newsletter Committee, which publishes QPS' quarterly journal, THE SENTINEL, QPSERC, ( Education and Research Committee), and the Membership Committee. Volunteers staff the various committees. There are also people who volunteer their time and talents in areas that don't necessarily fall under specific committees.

Ellen Krueger, owner of Fonz, (left), is  as elegant with the written word, as  Fonzi appears to be with the spoken  word! Ellen is the Editor of THE  SENTINEL, QPS' quarterly journal  which is included with QPS  membership dues. About Quakers,  Ellen says, "they are smart, funny and  great companions. Anyone that can  call me Mommy and doesn't require  college tuition is #1 in my book."

Enna lives with Ang Rolland, but.....it appears that one of her favorite places to lounge is on Ang's daughter, Tara. Ang is the techno whiz behind the Quaker Parakeet Discussion List and says, "Quakers have got such a big attitude for such little birds. There is much to be said about the little green dragons known as Quakers.QPS shows me that I am not alone when it comes to Quakers being territorial and other members shows me the right way to deal with it."

Author Mattie Sue Athan is a contributing writer to The Sentinel. Pictured above is her "hard-working Quaker, Tza-Tza. Tza-Tza sometimes poses as a wild bird in photo projects, as in this photo from Parrots in the City, Mattie Sue's latest book, written with Jon-Mark & JoAnn Davey, published under supervision of the Quaker Parakeet Society.
Cliff Patterson wears many hats on the News Letter Committee, which publishes The Sentinel. Cookie, Cliff's Quaker friend, is "the love of his life and helper at bird fairs", where people can meet Cliff in person as he sells avian related products of all kinds. On Quakers, Cliff has this to say: "Over the last twenty years, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to raise many different types of parrots. I've discovered that quakers are definitely my favorite. They have such endearing little personalities that I just can't resist them." And his feelings on QPS: "Quakers need protection from folks who would do them harm, and many folks need to be educated on the habits and needs of our little buddies. A national organization like QPS is just what is needed for these purposes."

QPS Membership Committee Chair, Lynne Muse, first met Kiwi "2 weeks after he hatched in 1996 and fell madly in love with the little pin cushion. Having never shared my home with a bird before Kiwi, I didn't have a clue what I was in for, but I will say now, that life with a Quaker is never dull. I found the QPList about 6 months after bringing Kiwi home and have depended on it for so many reasons; education about Quakers being foremost. I have also found many long time friends on the list, friends that are there when I have a question; friends that share the latest information and developments in the world of birds, people that have a wealth of information through experience, expertise and breeding. I have also watched the development of a very pimportant organization, the QPS, grow into something I am very proud to be a part of. QPS is an organization that grew from the desire of these friends to share this information with anyone that had an interest in Quakers and to better the life of Quaker Parakeets,

both feral and domestic."
